Twenty years of website design across West Sussex

We've been designing and building websites for over twenty years and we're based here in West Sussex, so wherever you are in the county, from the coast to the Downs to the commuter towns inland, you're working with a local team you can actually meet. No agency layers, no jargon, just the people who will design and build your site.

Every website we make is designed around the business it's for. It'll load fast on a phone, make it obvious what you offer and where you cover, and be easy for customers to enquire from. We hand-code sites or build them on WordPress, Shopify or WooCommerce depending on what's needed, and we can add ecommerce, booking systems, customer portals and other software when a standard site won't do the job.

Because we also handle SEO, your site goes live ready to rank for searches in your town and to appear in the map results, rather than needing to be fixed afterwards. And we stay on once it's launched, looking after hosting, maintenance and updates so the site keeps working for you.

What you get working with us

Four things that come as standard here and rarely do elsewhere.

Based in the county

We're on the coast at Bognor Regis, not in Brighton or London. We know which West Sussex searches bring in customers and which only look busy in a report, and we'll meet you anywhere in the county.

A personal service

You deal with James and a small team, by name and on the phone. No call centre, no ticket queue, and no account manager who changes every quarter.

Built by people, not by a generator

Every site is drawn, written and coded by hand. Nothing spun out of an AI tool or dropped into a bought theme, so yours will not look like the other five in your trade.

Results you can check

Trades, clinics, car dealers and childcare providers on this coast have climbed Google with us. We stay on after launch so the rankings hold, which is where most of the work actually is.

How a project works

Three stages, no mystery. You know what is happening and what comes next at every point. Brochure sites start from £495, and every project has a fixed written price before work begins.

1

A conversation, not a quote

We start with your customers, your competitors and what a good result looks like for you. From that we map the pages and a plan the design has to serve. We can meet at your premises, at our office on the university campus, or on a call.

2

Design first, then build

You see the design before anything is coded and we refine it together. Once you're happy we build it, test it on every device and set up the SEO foundations as we go rather than bolting them on at the end.

3

Launch, then stay on

We handle the domain, hosting, analytics and go-live. Afterwards you can hand the site to us to look after, or we show you how to update it yourself. Either way we're still here when you need us.

Your web team in West Sussex

Jayco Digital is run by James Cobb, based at the University of Chichester's Bognor Regis campus on the West Sussex coast. He works with firms across the county and the rest of the UK, on everything from a five page brochure site to booking systems and ad campaigns that have to pay for themselves.

Over twenty years he has worked out what actually moves a small business up Google and what is only noise. Every project is built by real people, and we stay on afterwards to keep it working.

Common questions about web design in West Sussex

The questions West Sussex businesses ask us most, answered. Anything else, just ask.

Ask us a question Ask us a question

It depends on the size of the site and what it needs to do. A small brochure website for a West Sussex business typically starts from £495, and an ecommerce or booking site costs more because there is more to build. We send a written proposal with a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

Our office is on the University of Chichester's Bognor Regis campus, on the coast between Chichester and Littlehampton. Most of our clients are along the coast, but we work across the county and are happy to meet at your premises or on a video call.

A brochure site usually takes four to eight weeks from go-ahead. Larger builds with ecommerce or custom features take longer. The biggest variable is how quickly content and feedback come back from your side, and we will tell you honestly if a deadline is not realistic.

Yes. For businesses serving more than one town we build dedicated location pages and optimise each for the searches people use there, so you can rank across your whole service area rather than only where you are based. Ongoing SEO and Google Maps work is available as a separate monthly service.

Yes. Most of our clients are along the coast between Chichester and Worthing, but we work with firms in Horsham, Crawley, Haywards Heath and the Downs villages too. Most of a project runs over calls and email wherever you are, with a visit when it helps.

Often, yes. We regularly take on sites that were left unfinished or unsupported. We will look at what exists and tell you honestly whether it is better value to fix it or start again, and we can move it to faster, more secure hosting either way.

It varies a lot. Freelancers typically charge somewhere between £500 and £2,000 for a small business website, and agencies with account managers and city centre offices usually start at £2,500 and go well past £10,000. We sit at the sensible end of that range because we run a small team from a university campus rather than a city centre office: brochure sites start from £495 and every project has a fixed written price before any work begins.

Yes, and ideally much faster. Most visitors decide within about three seconds whether to stay, and Google measures loading speed as part of how it ranks pages. We hand-code our sites without heavy page builders or bloated themes, which is why they load in well under three seconds on a phone. The pages on this site score 99 out of 100 for performance in Google's Lighthouse test.

A conversation about your business, then your logo, any brand guidelines, photography if you have it, and the text for your pages. If you do not have copy or photos we can help with both.
